70th edition of Total 24 Hours of Spa kicks off with new logo

The most important GT race in global motorsports holds its 70th edition in 2018. To start the celebrations in style the Total 24 Hours of Spa has unveiled a new and specific logo for this anniversary edition.

When, in 1924, the managers of the Royal Automobile Club of Belgium organised the first edition of what was then called the Grand Prix d’Endurance, the race was predominantly a test for the Belgian car manufacturers willing to meet the challenge against the foreign competitors. The race evolved during the years, but during the post-war years interest declined and the event ceased to be organised.

The modern version of the Spa 24 Hours was created in 1964. The race was initially for touring cars, but since 2001, when the SRO Motorsports Group included the race on the calendar of the FIA GT Championship, it has been exclusively for GT cars. In 2011 the Belgian endurance classic became the highlight of the Blancpain GT Series, and in 2016 it also became the blue riband event of the Intercontinental GT Challenge.

During the whole week of the 70th edition of the Total 24 Hours of Spa, the rich history of the event will be omnipresent on the Ardennes circuit. Previous winners, historic racing cars, exhibitions : there will be plenty of opportunities to relive some of the best moments of endurance racing.

But the story of the Total 24 Hours of Spa continues to be written. In 2018 the teams competing in the Blancpain GT Series and Intercontinental GT Challenge will all be vying to claim the prestigious win, entering top cars for top drivers. As has become custom during the recent years, fans will have an opportunity to see these magnificent men and women and their racing machines from up close during the traditional Wednesday parade in the Spa town centre.

The heroes of the 70th edition of the Total 24 Hours of Spa will not be the only actors on track, for with the Formula Renault Eurocup, FIA Formula 3 European Championship, Lamborghini Super Trofeo and the Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge Benelux, there will be no fewer than nine support races before the start of the 24-hour race on Saturday afternoon.
