Thailand Super Series : Alif Hamdam to join B-Quik Racing in Sepang

B-Quik Racing is pleased to announce that Alif Hamdan will be joining the team for the opening round of Thailand Super Series 2018 at Sepang Circuit on 30 Mar – 1 Apr.

The 27-year-old Malaysian will pilot one of the Porsche 997 GT3 Cup racecars that we will enter this year in Super Car GTM. It will also mark the team’s return to GTM after the absence of a year as for the 2017 season we moved up to the exciting new Super Car GTM Plus category having entered cars in GTM ever since the category was launched in 2013.

It also means that for the first time B-Quik Racing will be represented in all three Super Car categories: GTM Plus, GTM and GTC, with further announcements on drivers to be made over the coming weeks.

Alif is no stranger to racing the Porsche 997 GT3 Cup as his first ever race was in one of these machines, in Porsche Carrera Cup Asia, back in 2013, quite an unusual way to kick off a racing career! He also raced this car to second place in the Sepang 12 Hours in 2015 and just over two weeks ago he marked his return to ‘GT’ racing following a two-year absence by winning the GT Cup class in the Asian Le Mans Series 4 Hours of Sepang at the wheel of a 997 Cup.

As a Kuala Lumpur-based driver, Sepang is Alif’s “home” circuit, which he knows inside out, so unquestionably, he should be straight up to speed for the opening races of Thailand Super Series 2018.

Currently the arrangement is for a single round entry in Sepang but we are working with Alif to extend this to the full Thailand Super Series season.

Henk J. Kiks (Managing Director, B-Quik Racing): “We’re very pleased to welcome Alif to B-Quik for Sepang. We’ve known him for a while now and we know he’s very capable to delivering results and so as he was looking to relaunch his racing career in GT cars it was a logical fit for both sides. We want a driver who can produce decent results for our return to GTM and we are confident that Alif fits the bill. We now aim to deliver a car that’s ready to fight for the podium and after Sepang we will sit down and see if we can go forward and put a programme together for the full season.”

Alif Hamdan: “I’ve had a two and a bit year sabbatical from GT racing, as all the work I’ve been getting in Malaysia recently meant I’ve got stuck into touring cars and road cars coming through Sepang circuit. I’ve managed to get things together to do one round of TSS at the start of the season, so hopefully with that I can show my speed again and hopefully market myself and continue the season with a bit of support. I first met Henk in Buriram in 2016 at Carrera Cup Asia and had a chat with him and recently I heard through Will Bamber that there was an opportunity with B-Quik as the team would bring the cars down to Sepang in April, so it went from there. I’m not sure what I can do yet because TSS is a special series and there are a lot of modified GT cars in there so I guess it depends on the competition, what the competition has. But I’m told the car is a podium capable car so hopefully I can do a good job and get on the podium.”
