Callaway Competition is heading into the second to last racing weekend of the ADAC GT Masters with Jules Gounon and replacement driver Renger van der Zande

The battle for the championship cup in the “league of super sports cars” is coming to a head. Callaway Competition is reinforcing its team for the second to last racing weekend with Renger van der Zande, who is once again filling in as the replacement for regular driver Daniel Keilwitz.

The final candidates for the championship in the ADAC GT Masters are going to emerge on the Sachsenring this coming weekend. Callaway Competition is currently leading the rankings with Jules Gounon.

Renger van der Zande represents Daniel Keilwitz

ADAC GT Masters Champion 2013 and regular Callaway driver Daniel Keilwitz will not be taking the wheel of the Callaway Corvette C7 GT3-R. “Unfortunately Daniel had to skip two races, so he no longer has a chance at the title,” so the two team owners Giovanni Ciccone and Ernst Wöhr. “Daniel is however fighting for the championship cup in the PRO-AM category of the Blancpain GT Sprint series. We wish him all the best and great success for his race on the Nürburgring. Daniel is a fast driver and we sincerely hope he captures this title.”

The Swabian team from Leingarten brought Renger van der Zande on board as a replacement. When the Netherlands native previously filled in for Daniel Keilwitz, who was injured at the time, he promptly helped earn a victory in Zandvoort.

Point leader: 38 points separate Gounon from his pursuers

The Callaway Competition team is traveling to the Sachsenring with a lead of 38 points. There is a chance to become the ADAC GT Masters Champion ahead of schedule. However, not only speed but also luck matters in the end. “I love the Sachsenring,” says Gounon who leads the rankings. “It has a lot of fast curves that our Corvette C7 likes, and keeps going uphill and downhill. We won a race there in 2016. But it is too soon to tell whether we are that competitive again this year. Our last racing weekend on the Nürburgring was challenging.”

Whether Callaway Competition with Jules Gounon wins the championship cup ahead of time will be revealed on the weekend. Both races are being broadcast live by the Sport 1 television station on Saturday and Sunday
