Chevrolet Camaro GT4.R Scores First Victory

The Chevrolet Camaro GT4.R claimed its first race victory Saturday as Robin Liddell and Matt Bell won in the IMSA Continental Tire SportsCar Challenge at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park. It was just the third race in the series’ GS category for Chevrolet’s newest customer race car.

Liddell crossed the finish line by 6.462 seconds in the Stevenson Motorsports No. 57 Chevrolet Camaro GT4.R.

“Congratulations to Robin Liddell, Matt Bell, team owner Johnny Stevenson and everyone at Stevenson Motorsports on winning the first race for the Chevrolet Camaro GT4.R today at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park,” said Mark Kent, Chevrolet Director of Motorsports Competition. “We are very pleased with the early results for our newest Chevrolet race car, which validate the work and effort by everyone at Chevrolet Racing, GM Global Propulsion and Pratt & Miller. We look forward to more successes from our Camaro GT4.R customer teams in the future.”

He and Bell started the race fifth but moved into podium position only 19 laps into the two-hour, 30-minute race. Bell pitted with a little more than an hour to go, and Liddell emerged in second place. He took the lead for good immediately after the restart.

The Chevrolet Camaro GT4.R is based on the road-going Camaro ZL1 1LE production car. In addition to the GS category in the Continental Tire SportsCar Challenge in IMSA, the Camaro GT4.R also competes in the Pirelli World Challenge’s GTS class under the Blackdog Speed Shop banner. Chevrolet leads the GTS Manufacturer’s Championship with nine podium finishes in 10 races for Lawson Aschenbach.

The next race for the Chevrolet Camaro GT4.R in IMSA competition is Saturday, July 22 at Lime Rock Park. In the Pirelli World Challenge, the Camaro GT4.R next competes at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course on July 29-30.
