In honor of IMSA’s 50th season, CORE autosport will sport a livery honoring one of the iconic cars of the IMSA GTP era: the Nissan GTP ZX-Turbo.
For the 2019 IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship season, CORE will shed its traditional orange, gray and white for the red, white and blue worn by the Nissan GTP ZX-Turbo that won the Japanese marque three-straight IMSA Manufacturers’ Championships (1989 – 1991). The livery also bears resemblance to the Nissan R91CP that won the 1992 Rolex 24 at Daytona.
“Knowing that 2019 was a celebration of IMSA’s 50th season we knew we wanted to do something special with our livery to recognize that milestone,” team owner and driver Jon Bennett said. “Once we knew we’d be racing the Nissan this year, there wasn’t even a question about what throwback livery we’d use; it’d have to be the legendary red, white and blue of the GTP era. Seeing fans requesting that very concept on social media made it clear we’d made the right choice.”
The much loved color scheme will now grace CORE’s No. 54 Nissan Ligier DPi as the team makes it’s DPi category debut this year. Presently the livery is planned to remain on the car through all 10 rounds of the Championship.
Fans’ first look at CORE’s retro Nissan livery will be at next week’s Rolex 24 at Daytona.
