CORE Set to Challenge the Mobil 1 SportsCar Grand Prix

The fast, flowing corners of Canadian Tire Motorsport Park (CTMP) have pushed IMSA teams to their limit this weekend at the Mobil 1 SportsCar Grand Prix, the seventh round of the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship.

The three practice sessions at the 2.459-mile, 10-turn road course claimed three GT Daytona (GTD) cars with big accidents in turns three and six. Only two of the three were repaired in time for Saturday’s qualifying session.

After a hot and humid Friday, an evening storm rolled through the area and brought with it considerably cooler weather for Saturday’s qualifying session.

Jon Bennett was tapped with qualifying duties at CTMP and wheeled the car to 14th quickest in GTD with a 1:19.220 (111.74mph).

Bennett and co-driver Colin Braun take on the arduous Canadian circuit tomorrow starting at 12:05pm ET. There is a chance of rain in Sunday’s weather forecast. Live coverage of the event is available on FS1 starting at noon.

“The track has been fairly consistent, thankfully, throughout the weekend. We’re still looking for the proper setup for this car, and, I think in some ways, we are relearning the tires again.”

“Qualifying went pretty well for me personally, and I think that we’ll have a good showing for the race. We are chasing the setup, and I don’t think that we’re alone in that. We’re optimistic for the race and looking forward to Sunday.

“The track has already claimed several GTD cars before qualifying, so in that sense, we’re ahead of the curve. Tomorrow there’s a chance of rain, and I always say there’s opportunity in chaos, so I think that it could help.”
