GTO Racing with TTR duo Tony Fong and Brian Lee will compete in GT4 Asia next season with a Mercedes-AMG GT4.
The pair raced together in Blancpain GT Series Asia’s GT4 class in 2018 aboard a TTR-run Porsche but are now switching to the rebranded GT4 Asia championship with a new car and team behind them.
Indeed, GTO Racing’s involvement stems from their previous Macau Road Sport Challenge programme with Lee who scored three Blancpain GT Series Asia GT4 class podiums alongside Fong in 2018.
“I am aiming to do my best and respect the team’s expectations,” said Fong. “But I am also keen, with GTO Racing with TTR, to win a race and also become a regular podium finisher alongside Brian who will be a huge asset to the team and I. He is a great guy, as well as a great driver.”
“I am really looking forward to having the opportunity to race for this team with a new car,” added Lee. “We are very determined and motivated. Our target is to continue progressing and fighting together for positions that count. We cannot wait to start working towards achieving great results together.”
GTO Racing’s chairman Yuki Kusunoki believes Blancpain GT World Challenge Asia, with which GT4 Asia is paired next season, provides the ideal platform for his team’s regional expansion.
“We are proud to announce that our new Mercedes-AMG GT4 will compete in GT4 Asia next season,” he said. “Following on from our long-term Macau Road Sport Challenge partnership with Brian, Blancpain GT World Challenge Asia will be an ideal platform for us to demonstrate the team’s performance. We are very excited to be joining forces with TTR and the whole team is very motivated to start working on 2019.”
The Mercedes-AMG GT4 helped Reinhold Renger win the GT4 Drivers’ crown earlier this year, while it also recorded more victories – seven – than any other manufacturer.
GTO Racing with TTR’s news follows that of BMW Team Studie and Craft-Bamboo, which have both also confirmed 2019 GT4 Asia entries this week.
Sepang in Malaysia hosts the championship’s opening round on April 6/7.
