Fuji International Speedway looms large as Lyons and Hitotsuyama prepare for round 5

This weekend Lyons continues his busy racing schedule with a trip to the iconic home of Japanese racing, the 4.5km long Toyota owned Fuji International Speedway. Set against the backdrop of Mt Fuji it is a circuit that Lyons knows well and has conquered, but in recent seasons has been a source of both frustration and joy.

Audi Team Hitotsuyama and Lyons will be back to the grindstone in an effort to regain their mojo and banish the recent run of unfortunate form that has seen them remain static in the championship, and still pointless. With the summer in full swing in Japan, it will be another hot race in the R8 cockpit with temperatures soaring and drivers fighting to keep hydrated. With attendances at Fuji Speedway topping 100’000 there could be no better circuit for Lyons and Team Hitotsuyama to end the cycle and bring home championship points.

Richard Lyons:

“This race last year was one of our best, we just missed out on the win by 0.106 seconds. Although traditionally this is not our strongest circuit, we go there with confidence from last years performance. In our last race, round 4 at Sugo we were unlucky with a wheel coming off after our pitstop, but our pace was quick enough to have easily given us a podium finish if not the win.

This year our luck has been terrible for the team and myself, but I believe that we should never give up and keep focused. We have a great car and team so I’ll give it everything to get our first points on the board!”.
