A trio of Ginetta G57-P2’s are headed to the Circuit de Catalunya in Barcelona next week, as Ginetta prepares to defend its championship title in the V de V Championship’s PFV class.
Ginetta Chairman Lawrence Tomlinson claimed class honours in the G57-P2’s inaugural PFV season with the #57 car. He secured more victories than any other car in 2016, with four wins in seven rounds, plus pole position at six of the seven events.
For 2017, three cars head to the season opener, with Pegasus Racing and Simpson Motorsport each bringing a three driver team. Ginetta Factory Driver and last year’s PFV vice-champion Mike Simpson heads up a three driver line-up in the first Pegasus Racing car.
He will be joined by Neale Muston, who raced a Ginetta prototype in the Asian Le Mans Series, and Jordan Sanders, who raced the G57-P2 in last year’s V de V Championship at Mugello, Magny Cours and Estoril. Sanders also represents the first entry from the Ginetta Young Driver Programme.
The second Pegasus Racing entry features an all-French driver line up. Heading the entry is long-time customer Julian Schell, who raced as part of the team’s LMP2 programme in ELMS since 2014. Schell will be joined by Léo Roussel, who became the youngest Frenchman to have ever competed in the Le Mans 24 Hour when he was just 18. Completing the line-up is Stéphane Raffin, who raced as part of the V de V Endurance Proto series last season.
Simpson Racing returns to V de V with a single G57-P2 entry for the opening round. On driving duties is Charlie Robertson, whose entry into V de V last season saw him take a pair of class wins. Completing the line-up is former Ginetta Junior racer Sennan Fielding, and one other driver who is yet to be announced.
Neale Muston, driver; “The V de V category is an affordable yet highly competitive opportunity to race on some of the world’s best tracks with the latest in car technology and performance. Barcelona is a venue I have aimed to race at for many years and I am very much looking forward to the weekend.”
Jordan Sanders, driver; “I’m massively excited to be working with Pegasus Racing this year. They have competed at Le Mans four times and have won V de V before so I am confident we will get some good results. Driving with Mike and Neale gives us a strong driver line-up and I believe that we can get a podium to kick start the 2017 season!”
