HubAuto Racing will become Blancpain GT Series Asia’s first full-time Taiwanese GT3 team this season after confirming two entries for the upcoming campaign.
The squad, overseen by Morris Chen, was part of the championship’s GT4 category in 2018 but also made a one-off GT3 appearance at Shanghai as an evaluation for the coming season.
Now it’s able to confirm a pair of GT3 cars, albeit from an unknown manufacturer, for Blancpain GT Series Asia’s second season, which begins at Sepang in Malaysia on April 14/15.
Both driver crews will also be announced in due course.
Team principal Chen revealed that HubAuto’s decision to focus fully on GT3 was the result of Blancpain GT Series Asia’s strong entry list, as well as a desire to use the championship as a springboard in the future.
“What most attracted HubAuto to sampling Blancpain GT Series Asia last season was its interesting and very competitive races,” he said. “We know it will be very difficult but we will do our best to be competitive and achieve podium finishes and race wins.
“That same goal has prompted us to restructure the team. Focusing solely on the championship’s GT3 class, which includes many strong teams and drivers, will give us the best chance of achieving success. The increased number of engineers and mechanics will allow us to operate at a higher level.
“But while we would love to win in Asia we also have our sights set on SRO’s European Blancpain GT Series. This season will give us an opportunity to build up a stronger team so we can use that experience and knowledge further afield in the future.”
Chen added that Blancpain GT Series Asia also provides a perfect chance for the region’s drivers to compete on a more professional level.
“I am proud to represent Taiwan in a championship like this because such opportunities are very difficult to come by,” he said. “We always have to work very hard to score good results against competitors from other regions because, for now, there is only one race track here in Taiwan. I hope more teams and drivers from Taiwan will join Blancpain GT Series Asia in the near future.”
Further GT3 and GT4 entries are set to be announced in the coming weeks.
