Jetstream Motorsport is out for glory in Rounds 4 and 5 of the 2018 British GT Championship at Snetterton (26-27 May), having already come tantalisingly close to victory.
The objective was to finish inside the top five in Round 3 of the 2018 season at Rockingham Motor Speedway, but, while fifth position was the end result, Jetstream Motorsport shocked the established opposition by unleashing winning pace and leading a race in only its second British GT outing.
In a stunning display that earned him the Blancpain Driver of the Weekend award, Graham Davidson sliced his way from ninth on the starting grid to second position, before a perfect pit stop under immense pressure and quick out-laps from Aston Martin Racing works driver Maxime Martin propelled Jetstream Motorsport up into P1.
The Bruntingthorpe-based team looked assured of victory but was dealt a cruel blow when it was served with a drive-through penalty for an alleged track limits infringement, and it ended the day with a highly respectable fifth-place result.
Spirits were subsequently high leaving Rockingham and Jetstream Motorsport – an official Aston Martin Racing Partner Team – has boldly tipped itself for victory in the British GT Championship’s double-header at Snetterton (26-27 May), particularly after hitting all targets in testing at the East Anglian circuit.
Historically, Aston Martin has always excelled on Snetterton’s 2.99-mile, 12-turn ‘300’ layout, as a V12 Vantage has won four British GT races at Snetterton since 2014.
This remarkable record heightens Jetstream Motorsport’s determination to achieve big results in what will be the final two 60-minute sprint races of the year, which precede a series of two and three-hour endurance contests, where points-and-a-half are awarded.
“The pace we possessed at Rockingham and in testing at Snetterton inspires confidence and, having now led a race on merit, Jetstream Motorsport has to shoot for wins and podium finishes from now on,” said Davidson. “It’s impossible and frankly unwise to underestimate the competition in the British GT Championship, but – and I’m not saying it’s going to be easy – I don’t see any reason why we can’t fight at the front once again at Snetterton. Jetstream Motorsport has taken huge strides with the Aston Martin V12 Vantage GT3 with incredible support from Aston Martin Racing, and Maxime (Martin) and I have really gelled as teammates, to the point where we can be one of the strongest pairings on the grid. Everybody involved with the team was buoyed by our performance last time out and coming so close to victory really whet the appetite. We crave wins and we have every reason to be positive.”
Rounds 4 and 5 of the 2018 British GT Championship is scheduled to commence at 11.00 and 15.30 respectively on Sunday (27 May).
