Wimmer Werk Motorsport has claimed last year LMP3 title in the VdeV Endurance Series with Mattias Kaiser, behind the wheel of the #26 Ligier JS P3. In 2019, the Austrian team, led by Felix and Max Wimmer, will race in the Ultimate Cup Series. Max Wimmers gives some words about te upcoming season :
Are you proud of your 2018 season ? Did you expect suh a result ?
« We are very proud of 2018 season. It was our first year of prototype racing. We are always focused and we work as best as we can. We didnt expect the result as teams like Inter Europol Competition which finished in second place in the 2018 ELMS and whichh also competed in the whole season of the VdeV Series. We are still learning and always try to make steps forward. »
Why have you chosen to go in the Ultimate Cup Series in 2019 ?
« This answer is simple. Itis because of the Michelin tyres. VdeV has lost Michelin as a partner. The international tyre for prototype cars is Michelin, in ELMS and WEC. We want to get to ELMS. So we need to develop and learn on Michelin tyres. »
How many cars will you enter ? One, two ? Will it be still a Ligier (s) JS P3 ?
« One only. We will compete with the same car as last year. Ligier JS P3. »
What will be the line-up ?
« Matthias Kaiser will compete the whole season with us again. Same with Klaus Bachler as drivers coach and race support. Lukas Dunner and Constantin Schöll (both Austrians) will share the third driver seat for the season of 2019. Hendrick Still will get also the pleasure to join us on some races. »
Klaus Bachler has been extremely performing last year. What can you say about him ?
« Klaus is in really good shape. He is really expierenced, precise and fast. Besides, he is a really nice guy and knows what motorsports is about.«
What will be your objective in the 2019 Ultimate Cup Series ?
« We are not aiming for a specific position in the 2019 UCS. This year again is a year of learning and of preparation for the ELMS. We will give our best. We will be happy if we reach the podium or even more the top of the podium. We do our work as good as we can and then see which result it brings. »
Alongside the UCS, will you be racing too in other Series , as the Micheli Le Mans Cup for instance ?
« No. »
Are you thinking to race someday at Le Mans ?
« This is the long-term plan. To compete le mans as a team would be a dream come true. »
