The new McLaren 720S GT3 car will make its competitive debut at this year’s eighth edition of the Gulf 12 Hours on 15 December as it competes for overall race victory at the iconic Yas Marina circuit in Abu Dhabi.
Having made its first public appearance at the Bahrain GT Festival on 30 November, McLaren Automotive will then field the single car, which has been undergoing an extensive and demanding development programme, in the top GT3 Pro class.
The new machine will be pitched against one of the most competitive grids, on one of the most fiercely contested fixtures on the global GT calendar, and raced around the track which is home to the Abu Dhabi Formula 1 Grand Prix.
In anticipation of its debut on 15 December, the 720S GT3 will continue its development programme as the team relocates to the Middle East for further track running, ahead of its homologation for the 2019 season.
McLaren Automotive Director of Motorsport, Dan Walmsley, said: “We are really thrilled to be competing in the Gulf 12 Hours, which will end an exciting year for the motorsport team. The 720S GT3 is the first race car designed and built by McLaren Automotive and the development team has worked tirelessly to deliver the gruelling test programme we devised for the car.
“We’re sure we’ll have plenty to learn during the race, and we’ll continue with testing after the event. This is an important product for McLaren Automotive.”
The car’s three-driver line-up for the Gulf 12 Hours will be confirmed shortly.
