SRT making a comeback on the international GT racing scene offering young talents a chance!
Both in Belcar Endurance and the European GT4 Series with AMG Motorsport
The father and son Selleslagh team has for many years been a reference on the international GT racing scene. For SRT the national and international season will kick-off in a few days at Circuit Zolder and this will be a comeback at the highest level for them. As Customer team of AMG Motorsport SRT will be entering two Mercedes-AMG GT4 in the Belcar Endurance and in the fast growing GT4 European Series no less than three similar machines will be on the grid. And SRT will continue its philosophy of counting on young local talents, as Sam Dejonghe and Gregory Eyckmans will be the duo at the wheel of one of the three Mercedes-AMG GT4.
This season the GT4 European Series will hold six competitions and it takes off on home ground, namely at Circuit Zolder. On 6-7-8 April the European top in the GT racing world will be on hand with near on 40 cars in the GT4 European Series, with also three Mercedes-AMG GT4 entered by SRT.
Patrick Selleslagh is delighted to be back in action in SRO’s fast-growing series. SRT was in fact a fixed asset in the FIA GT and the World Championship GT1. Who does not recall amongst others the team’s victories in Monza, Paul Ricard and on the legendary circuit of San Luis in Argentina, at that time with Corvette.
Patrick Selleslagh: “We, together with the entire team are delighted to be back. Working together at a top level with AMG Motorsport is a great step forward and believe me, GT4 is on the move. For this first race at Circuit Zolder we are entering three cars. Nicolas Vandierendonck and Johan Vannerum are manning one car, Louis–Philippe Soenen will be going solo in a second. These are the regular teams for the championship. Next to that we are offering Sam Dejonghe and Gregory Eyckmans the opportunity to prove their worth in front of a home crowd, on home ground, in the third Mercedes-AMG GT4. With these two young wolves at the wheel of one of SRT’s GT cars we are continuing the tradition that we started years earlier. Recall the first international steps Maxime Soulet made with us, and who has now built up a great career. Working with young talent has always been important for SRT and as such we are continuing in that light.”
Gregory Eyckmans: “I am honoured to be given the opportunity that Patrick Selleslagh is giving me. During the 24 Hours of Zolder last year I had the pleasure of working with this professional team and Sam Dejonghe is no unknown individual to me either. I want to grasp this opportunity with both hands and I’m truly looking forward to working with SRT this upcoming weekend and be at the start with the GT4!”
Sam Dejonghe: “I have exactly the same feeling as Gregory. It’s super to be working with a professional Belgian team with a brilliant car during a Belgian top weekend. We are going to do everything within our power to offer SRT what it has a right to: a place up front in the rankings.”
Worth noting that in the Belcar SRT will be entering cars with Johan Vannerum, Nicolas Vandierendonck and Filip Teunkens on the one hand, and on the other the car for Ward Sluys, Glenn Detruyer, Wim Spinoy and Bruno De Troch.
