Optimum Motorsport recommit to GT Open – New Aston Martin GT3 for Wilkinson and Ellis

Having dipped a metaphorical toe in the International GT Open waters late in 2017, Optimum Motorsport competed in the Championship full-time last year and are delighted to confirm a season-long commitment to the series again in 2019 with Ollie Wilkinson and Bradley Ellis.

The team are happy to announce that it will field the all-new Aston Martin Vantage GT3 in the 14-round Championship with continued support from the mental health app, my possible self. With four podium positions last year, including two Pro-Am class victories, Team Principal Shaun Goff is looking forward to the campaign ahead.

“2018 was something of a learning season for Ollie, it was his first full year competing in GT3 cars,” he explained. “He made great strides over the season in a car that was tricky for a less experienced driver to get the maximum from.

“While Bradley will continue to lead the team on track, we believe that Ollie will close the gap and as a pairing, will be seeking victories from the start of the season and putting together a championship challenge.”

The season gets underway at Paul Ricard in late April and concludes at Monza in October. Prior to that the team will be taking part in the official pre-season tests at Paul Ricard and Barcelona.

Ollie Wilkinson
“We had a fantastic first full season with Optimum campaigning GT Open last year. It’s a series I really enjoy being a part of and I’m proud of the results we’ve achieved. Of course we’ve got a new learning curve with the Aston Martin Vantage GT3 but we’ll be building on our strengths to aim for outright wins and fight for the title.”

Bradley Ellis
“We know the championship now and we showed everyone our pace last year… Now we are going to head back and challenge for the tittle. The new car will make it interesting as it’s an unknown but I’m confident that the team will get on top of it before the first round so we can be on full attack all year.”
