As part of their super-season in the FIA World Endurance Championship, Rebellion Racing have announced their return in the main category. World Champion last year in the LM P2 class with the ORECA 07, Rebellion have turned to ORECA Technology for their new LM P1 prototype.
Several months ago, the French manufacturer from Le Var began working on designing and manufacturing a new LM P1 for the Swiss team Rebellion Racing, in addition to bringing operational support to Toyota Gazoo Racing
2017 marked the implementation of new rules & regulations for the LM P2 class.
With the ORECA 07, the French manufacturer quickly showed it was a serious contender. One win in LM P2 at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, a historic double win overall alongside Porsche, one world title in the FIA WEC, and one title in the ELMS: it was a grand slam for the ORECA 07 in 2017.
Considering those successes and the high-quality know-how of ORECA’s design bureau, Rebellion Racing decided to entrust ORECA Technology with the manufacturing of their new LM P1: ‘Rebellion R 13’.
For Alexandre Pesci’s men and his 10 years’ old squad, it seemed natural to come back to LM P1, with the new regulations put in place by the ACO (Automobile Club de l’Ouest). For a fifth year, this is a true partnership set up between Rebellion Racing and ORECA.
The new Rebellion R 13, equipped with a Gibson engine, will be finalised shortly before the prologue, for a first shakedown with Rebellion Racing’s team members and drivers.
“To design this new LM P1 prototype is a wonderful challenge” ORECA Group’s CEO Hugues de Chaunac confides. “When the design bureau began developing the ORECA 07, we really wanted to move up to the next level, one step higher compared to the ORECA 05. The successes achieved last year really motivated and convinced us to now tackle this highly competitive main category. Fitted with an atmospheric engine, this LM P1 will face a hard task against the Hybrid cars. But the Rebellion R 13 will be a very determined challenger.”
