Performance Tech Motorsports Rolex 24 At Daytona lineup is LMP3 Champions Cameron Cassels and Kris Wright accompanied by Mazda Prototype Challenge race winner, Dr. Robert Masson and LMPC Champion Kyle Masson.
Wright won the 2018 overall LMP3 Championship while Cassels claimed the LMP3 Masters Championship. In the MPC class, Masson took home the sole win at Daytona International Speedway before the class was retired. This race is the debut of Cassels, Wright and Robert Masson in the Rolex 24 At Daytona. The venture is also Wright’s first run with Performance Tech.
Performance Tech and Wright are more accustomed to competing against one another in the IMSA Prototype Challenge series. Wright has spent two seasons battling in the Prototype Challenge series and garnered experience in the Michelin Pilot Challenge. Wright is going to look to past experience and success for inspiration as he maneuvers the track for the first time in an LMP2, namely his 2018 third-place finish in the Scouts of America Race for IMSA Prototype Challenge.
Cassels first ran with Performance Tech in the LMP3 Masters category in 2018. After clinching the Masters Championship, he announced he would again run with Performance Tech in hopes of winning the overall LMP3 championship with the help of James French. Now, he’s hoping to take home a Rolex with the team in the WeatherTech SportsCar Championship. Cassels has previously won at Daytona International Speedway in the Michelin Pilot Challenge GS class.
Robert Masson is making a massive step up this season. While some of his peers opted to run an LMP3, Robert Masson set his eyes on something more significant, the LMP2 class. Masson was a multi-race winner in the IMSA Prototype Challenge series after running two years consecutively in the MPC class. One win came at Daytona International Speedway in the inaugural race of the series running at the Roar Before the Rolex 24.
Kyle Masson returns as a seasoned professional in the No. 38 Centinel Spine Prototype. Kyle Masson completed his first full season in the IMSA WeatherTech Championship series last year after acting as the endurance driver and ultimately LMPC class champion in 2017. He jumps up to team captain as the senior-most member of the lineup. Outside of the LMP2, Kyle Masson is the third driver of the No. 19 Kerr Industries LMP3 in the IMSA Prototype Challenge series.
“I’m really proud of this lineup because it showcases the prototype ladder system,” said Brent O’Neill, Team Principal. “Sharing the car, we have two LMP3 champions, a former MPC champion and Robert may not have won the championship but he was in the fight all season long. Robert won Daytona last year and Kyle won Daytona with us in the PC class. Kris was on the podium at Daytona in LMP3 and Cameron won here in a GT car. They’ve all got great experience at this track and they’re ready to take it on at the next level.
