Reigning GP2 Series champion and Red Bull Formula 1 reserve driver Pierre Gasly will replace Sebastien Buemi for New York’s double-header this week.
Due to a commitment with FIA WEC Championship and Toyota LMP1 at the 6 hours of Nürburgring which is held on the same weekend, Sebastien Buemi is unavailable for the penultimate round of the FIA Formula E Championship.
Buemi leads the drivers’ championship with a 32 point advantage, while Renault e.dams holds a 58 points margin over their nearest rivals at the top of the teams’ standings with four races to go: New York and Montreal.
Alain Prost, co-owner of the team: “I deeply regret this clash between the WEC and FE which could have been avoided. However, we have to move forward and we are very pleased to welcome Pierre Gasly. Racing in New York is going to be a challenge as he makes his Formula E debut at the end of the championship. But looking at our preparation, we are confident and our goal remains the same, to score the maximum points to strengthen our lead in the championship.”
Jean-Paul Driot, co-owner of the team: “This situation is regrettable because even without this clash, the championship is not a certainty. Despite this unfortunate setback, I hope that with Pierre Gasly’s invaluable assistance, Renault e.dams will be able to defend their winning chances in Montreal.”
