Project 1 is expanding its endurance programme and in addition to its FIA WEC commitment, the Lohne team will be competing in the 2019 European Le Mans Series and fielding a Porsche 911 RSR there for the first time. First driver at the start will be Egidio Perfetti. Further participants are to be announced.
The Lower Saxony racing squad’s ELMS commitment expands its endurance project, which also includes the future use of a second Porsche 911 RSR: “In 2018 we set ourselves the goal of establishing the team in long distance racing and we’re now continuing to realise our ambitions by entering the European Le Mans Series”, team manager Marcel Jürgens-Wichmann explains. After its first successful FIA WEC races, the team aims to fight with the ELMS frontrunners in the LMGTE category.
Project 1 will thus be creating a comprehensive racing programme, in which drivers can further their careers step by step and benefit from the experience gained in the one-make cups later in ELMS, FIA WEC and the 24-hour races. This also offers young engineers a field where they can contribute their one-make trophy experiences and develop them within the endurance framework.
The European Le Mans Series is regarded as a Europe-wide offshoot of the FIA WEC and follows the rules applying to the 24 Hours of Le Mans. With a total of 41 entries, the endurance series boasts a high-quality grid and the Project 1 crew will be facing fierce competition from Ferrari and Porsche in the LMGTE category. Six 4-hour races are scheduled for this year: Le Castellet, Monza, Barcelona, Silverstone, Spa-Francorchamps and also Portimão. The UK round takes place as part of the FIA WEC event. The season kicks off in France on 14 April.
