Slidesports give ‘Generation 1’ 991 spectacular send off in the Gulf

With the generation 2 Porsche 991 GT3 set to replace the current Carrera Cup cars in 2018, the Slidesports crew wanted to give their current noble steed a valiant send off. And how better to do that, than to compete in the Gulf 12 Hours at the stunning Yas Marina Circuit on  14th to 16th December?

Team Principal Mark Jenkins is positive going into the event, despite the 911 being more suited to sprint races, “it can be a little tricky to make the car competitive for endurance races” he said. “But it’s a great end of season event! The drivers love it and the racing is close and high quality.”

2017 saw the Staffordshire based team complete a successful debut year in the Porsche Carrera Cup GB. Mark commented “this year is the last competitive year before we move onto the generation 2 car, so we wanted to make the most of the current cars before they are sold.”

The Slidesports Porsche will be peddled by PCCGB drivers Graeme Mundy and David Fairbrother, who will be joined by GT Cup driver Nigel Armstrong. All three racers have recently tasted success, when they finished third in the 991 class at the 24 hours of COTA in Austin, Texas last month.
