SPV Racing officially joins Electric GT grid for 2018

SPV Racing has officially confirmed its entry for the inaugural Electric GT season, commencing in 2018.

The multiyear deal will see Swedish Spanish team, SPV Racing field two cars in the Electric GT Championship, while also fielding an entry in the eSports support series to develop new racing talent.

SPV Racing was formed through a partnership between Swedish Team Spirit Racing, owned by Lars GV Lindberg and SPV Motorsport owned by Raul Garcia. The team is currently racing in the European LeMans Series and the Le Mans Cup, with the aim of making its 24 Hours of Le Mans debut in 2019.

Preparing for its entry in the allelectric championship, SPV Racing also announced the line up with experienced drivers to assist with the development of the new team and getting up to speed with a new technology.

Spanish driver Alvaro Fontes is a veteran of GT racing, with over 250 race starts to his name. He has previously participated in the Hyundai Coupé Cup, Seat Super Cup, Spanish GT Championship, Radical European Masters and the European LeMans Series.

SPV’s drive to develop young talent will also see them field a development driver for Electric GT’s eSports support series, lead by eSports and singleseater Spanish racer Javier Martinez.

SPV Racing will be the first customer to receive the raceprepared Tesla Model S EGT P100D later this year and will begin a promotional programme with the car ahead of the debut race mid2018.

The announcement was made during the inaugural Day of Light at the Electric GT headquarters at Circuit PauArnos, where EGT’s sustainable credentials are put into action from the ground up, creating an incubator for technology and clean energy.

Electric GT CEO, Mark Gemmell said: “This is a significant step forward for Electric GT as we prepare for our first season in 2018. We are delighted to welcome SPV Racing to the EGT family. Since our first introductions, SPV Racing has hit the ground running and we have enjoyed working with people who are as eager and excited to go racing as we are. “We are pleased to see SPV also putting forward such a strong lineup of development drivers as they prepare for their electric racing debut. Lars and Raul with their team have acknowledged the steep learning curve that their entry into electric racing will bring and they have selected excellent drivers to assist them.”

Lars Lindberg, SPV Racing Team Manager said: “We are so proud to be the first team to officially announce our entry to the Electric GT Championship. We are excited by this new chapter for our team as we take on the challenge of racing with electric power. “From a pure racing side, with the Tesla we have a lot to learn so we are proud that we have such a strong lineup of drivers to assist with our development on and off the track. We believe that we are putting our best foot forward and hope to make a strong start in our first season. “We’re proud of the experience in our team, having raced all over the world in multiple categories. We are also looking forward to using Electric GT as an opportunity to develop new racing talent and we believe that the eSports Championship will be a good testing ground for racing stars of the future.”
