South Africa’s Stephen Simpson is ready to race the Mobil 12 Hours of Sebring where he will share the new JDC Miller Motorsports new top class IMSA Prototype ORECA-Gibson 07 with Russo-Canadian Misha Goikhberg and US driver Chris Miller in the classic half-day race Saturday 18 March.
The team heads to Florida, US race confident following a positive two-day test, as Stephen explains: “I feel we are heading into the second longest race of our season well prepared – we set the fourth quickest lap time at the end of the two days with all other full time competitors present.
“Sebring is a tough race – the track is bumpy and aggressive, but we were able to understand the car better through trying various different setup changes. “We also enjoyed a solid start to our season and coming off a fifth place finish at the Daytona 24 and we’re looking forward to another strong race where we are hoping to mix it up more with the Cadillacs.”
Sebring is also the second round for the Continental Tire Sports Car Championship where Stephen will share the JDC-Miller BMW 228i with regular teammate Michael Johnson in the Sebring 120. “Unlike the 4-hour race at Daytona, we are back to a more regular 2-hour format, Stephen pointed out. “The JDC Miller Motorsports team has been hard at preparing the car and Michael and I are ready to get back at – we will be pushing hard to come away from Sebring with a solid result.”
