Teo Martin Motorsport with McLaren in 2019

Teo Martín Motorsport faces an exciting challenge in 2019, and the team is proud to announce that its traveling companion for the next few years will be McLaren Automotive.

The Spanish team will have technical and sporting support from the McLaren Automotive Customer Racing division, as the team launches a new GT4 program using the McLaren 570S GT4s as an initial step for the drivers in GT world. In addition to this, the newly-launched McLaren 720S GT3 will be added to the Teo Martin Motorsport stable, as the team is confirmed as the first team in Europe to run the latest McLaren model. With this new line-up, the team is looking to build on the successes achieved to date in the GT3 class.

Teo Martin Motorsport has enjoyed previous success with McLaren, having secured the International GT Open drivers’ title with the brand in 2015. Running with the 650S GT3, the team claimed six pole positions and four race wins during the season, on the way to championship honours.

The confirmation that Teo Martin Motorsport will run in both GT3 and GT4 categories underlines the commitment of the team to focusing on supporting the careers of emerging talents. Collaborating with McLaren Automotive will result in synergies for both entities, working towards the joint goal of searching for, and supporting, future talent within motorsport.

Through establishing young driver programmes, both Teo Martin Motorsport and McLaren Automotive have served to guide and assist young and promising drivers as they progress from go-karts to the elite levels of motorsport. Going forward, the teams will now work closely together with shared objectives to help further strengthen the future of the sport.

Members of the Teo Martin Junior Team will be vying for a place at the assessment for the McLaren Automotive Driver Development Programme ahead of the 2020 season, while an internship programme at McLaren Automotive has also been established which will see the team’s best engineers and technicians offered an opportunity to further build their knowledge and experiences. Running in parallel to this, the McLaren Automotive Factory Drivers and members of this season’s recently-confirmed Driver Development Programme will benefit from the services and facilities offered by the MSI (Motor & Sport Institute) Bio-Performance Center in Spain.

Teo Martín, Team Owner
I’m happy to work with McLaren again. We returned to competition in 2015 with them and the successes arrived right away, so I hope that this new adventure will bring us many more joys like those of that year. Now, after seeing the great performance of the 720S GT3 in its first race at the Gulf 12 Hours, we are very excited with the 2019 season. In addition to this, we will also run the 570S GT4 for our Junior Team drivers, a car that has become the rival to beat in its class with just two years of life“.

Emilio de Villota, Team Principal
We embarked on a 360º global project with McLaren Automotive, in which sporting and technical collaboration is undoubtedly very important. I am sure that we will achieve many successes together. In addition, the synergy in different areas such as academic internship, technology collaborations or drivers preparation at the Motor & Sport Institute shows a bright future full of possibilities for both parties“.

Dan Walmsley, Motorsport Director, McLaren Automotive

This marks a significant moment for McLaren Customer Racing, with Teo Martin Motorsport confirmed as the first 720S GT3 customer team in Europe. The team has a proven track record of winning at the top level, and we aim to help them return to the top steps of podiums with the 720S GT3, and also the 570S GT4.It is clear that the team shares the same goals and objectives as McLaren Automotive, with a focus on supporting and nurturing the future talents of our sport – both on the track and on the pitwall – and we are proud to be working closely to help achieve further successes, establishing the team and its talent now and in the future“.
