Last weekend, the third run of the VLN took place for the Wochenspiegel Team Monschau, supported by Rinaldi Racing. On board the Ferrari 488 GT3 with Georg Weiss, Oliver Kainz, and Jochen Krumbach. The Porsche Cayman GT4 was shared by Dirk Riebensahm and Rene Offermann.
After the good result of the 24 hours race, the team wanted to continue its success. On Friday afternoon, both cars participated in the test at the Nürburgring/Nordschleife. So, drivers and teams could adapt themselves to track conditions and temperatures.
On Saturday afternoon, the qualifying started. Jochen Krumbach drove an absolute dream lap time of 8:00.923 minutes in the Ferrari and reached the second position overall. On the Porsche, Dirk Riebensahm qualified on the second position in class.
On time at noon, the 145 cars in the starting field began the 4 hours race. Jochen Krumbach took over the start in the Ferrari with the starting number 22. Already in the first turn, Krumbach tried to overtake the leader but also had to defend his second place. Until the first pit stop, Krumbach could keep his second position. Also the Porsche, with Rene Offermann as starting driver, could keep his position in class.
In the second stint, Oliver Kainz was behind the steering wheel of the Italian racing car. Due to a good pit stop strategy and good lap times, the team took over the lead of the race. Also on the second stint of Krumbach, he could extend the gap to the runner-up. On the Porsche with the starting number 169, Offermann and Riebensahm rotated in their stints. With constant lap times, both drivers performed very well.
Georg Weiss in the Wochenspiegel Ferrari drove the last stint. At the end, and with almost a gap of one minute, he reached the first position overall. Besides he took the win in the ProAm class for the team. Also, the Porsche gained the third position in class at the end of the race.
Michele Rinaldi: „This is a fantastic result! Although we had so much bad luck in the first VLN races, now we could show our strength. To reach the overall victory with the Ferrari 488 GT3 is really a dream coming true. Also, we won the ProAm category in the race. I am really satisfied with the work of our team. Especially with the work of the drivers – they all showed a great performance. I am particularly happy for Georg Weiss – it is his first victory ever in the VLN. Now we hope that we can keep this level for the future and convince at the next races.“
