TF Sport head to Rockingham Motor Speedway this weekend (28-29 April) for the third race of the 2018 British GT Championship with realistic expectations after a difficult opening event at Oulton Park earlier in the month.
The double-header at Oulton Park saw the team lose out in the first race on the opening lap, while the second race was a non-event, run behind the safety car before being declared a result after three laps.
Based on the qualifying positions – and a rival not starting – the team secured a second-place finish for Derek Johnston and Marco Sørensen in the #17 Aston Martin Vantage GT3 and a third position for Mark Farmer and Nicki Thiim in the #11.
Whilst the belated double podium was a welcome bonus, heading into the race weekend at Rockingham for the first two-hour endurance race of the season, the duo therefore receive success penalties of 15 and 10 seconds respectively during the mandatory pit stops.
“We didn’t perform as we’d hoped at Oulton Park with mistakes costing us points in the first race,” TF Sport Director Tom Ferrier began. “We were able to pick up second and third in the second race, but we weren’t racing so we can’t take too much satisfaction from that. We also know this weekend at Rockingham will be tough for us with the success penalties.
“Perhaps the win is a tall order, but it could rain, so you just never know. The main aim though is to score good points from both cars to move us up in the drivers’ standings.”
