The Norma M20 FC will be the first prototype of the CN group with a 1.6-liter Peugeot turbo engine developped by RDM. Norbert Santos, creator of the Norma, tells us more.
“We are building the first car equipped with the RDM engine and this first model should be able to participate in the V de V meeting at Magny-Cours, where drivers could test it,” says the creator and the director of the Norma Auto Concept. We will be able to judge the level of performance of the 1.6 liters turbo engine compared to the 2.0 liters naturally aspirated engine, but according to our simulations, the performances seem very close. Nothing, however, replaces the track verdict. “
Before being presented to the public in the Nièvre, from the 6th to the 8th of October, the car will undergo a dynamic development at several circuits. “The goal is to assemble the car as quickly as possible in order to move on to the second phase,” he continues. The workshops of Norma being located in Saint-Pé-de-Bigorre (65), it would be logical to see it on the track of Pau-Arnos or Nogaro. Norbert Santos will undoubtedly have no difficulty in finding an experienced driver able to take the steering wheel.
This prototype will initially be built with the same carbon cell as the M20 FC with Honda engine. Depending on the results, the designing of another one will be discussed : ” The specific needs of the engine will be taken into consideration. The exchange surface as well as the air / air exchanger that we need, depending on the thermic stress, will affect largely the decision. Once again, we will only know once on the track, ” concludes Norbert Santos.
The engine, which can be adapted to all cars in the CN group, is derived from the 1.6-liter Peugeot turbo engine and was designed by RDM company run by Daniel Fasano and Jean-Pierre Gatti, based in Haute-Savoie , specialized in the design and development of racing engines.
